Christmas markets, local crafts from Innsbruck to Agrigento

Christmas is approaching and with it the traditional Christmas markets. In a time when the local handicraft economy has returned to be of greatest importance for each territory, Christmas market shopping allows to buy unique and exclusive gifts for the joy of both adults and children.

And so this year we find more and more markets, both in the Italian territory and in the whole area of central Europe. When visiting the picturesque markets of Salzburg and Innsbruck, you can enjoy a relaxing stay in one of the nearby charming properties, such as the beautiful Central Spa Hotel Sölden, surrounded by mountain Ötztal, or you can choose the city of Salzburg with its beautiful castles such as Hotel Schloss Mönchstein or Schloss Leopoldskron & Meierhof.

From Austria we then reach the famous markets of the Trentino region, particularly those of Merano and Bolzano, where you will be surrounded by an incredibly magical atmosphere. There are several possibilities for a romantic overnight stay, such as for example the welcoming hospitality of the Villa Eden Leading Medical Spa, which features one of the most famous Italian beauty farms, or the Hotel Castel Fragsburg, with its breathtaking views over the valley of Merano, or also the Chalet Grumer Suites & Spa, a beautiful mountain lodge not far away from Bolzano.

Also the Aosta Valley hosts many beautiful Christmas markets in several cities, including Aosta, Bionaz, Verres, Chatillon and Champoluc. Among the mountains of the Aosta Valley and its ancient villages you can browse through the narrow streets to discover an exclusive and original gift idea to choose among the various handmade creations. For your overnight stay we recommend the Mont Blanc Hotel Village, a true piece of paradise at the feet of the Mont Blanc, or the Breithorn Hotel, where you can enjoy the natural spectacle of the Monte Rosa.

Reaching the central part of Italy, during recent years another city is hosting marvellous Christmas markets: the wonderful city of Florence. In this way, in addition to visiting some of the most important monuments and museums of the world, you can browse through the colorful markets to choose your perfect gifts. We suggest you stay at the Casa Howard Guest House, a historical building just a few steps from the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, or at the splendid historical residence Palazzo Tolomei.

Passing by Rome and Naples, two cities with many original Christmas markets, we reach Sicily, and in particular Agrigento and its square Piazza Stazione. Throughout the month of December and until the Epiphany, you can experience the magic of the Sicilian handicraft in one of the newest and most exciting Christmas markets in Italy. A visit to Agrigento must of course include the wonderful Valley of the Temples, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage, and some of the most beautiful natural reserves in the surroundings, such as Torre Salsa or the Scala dei Turchi. Indeed, even in winter these places show a unique charm thanks to their extraordinary beauty. The Baglio della Luna, a typical farm with courtyards, watch towers and with a lovely terrace overlooking the Valley of the Temples, and the Domus Aurea, an old manor house surrounded by a green garden full of tropical and Mediterranean plants, are the most exclusive properties that we recommend to best enjoy this part of Sicily.
