Offida is one of the oldest and most beautiful villages in Italy

Offida, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, was recently considered among the most beautiful villages in Italy and with ancient origins .

Its old town, within the medieval castle walls, consists of narrow streets and characteristics squares, as well as monuments of great artistic and architectural value, which bear witness to a glorious past.

There have been several hypotheses proposed by scholars over time about the origins of its name, such as” walled city ” or ” snake ” or ” opulent hill“, and according to the archaeological sites which were found, we could think that the city was founded during the Stone Age .

Over the centuries a great progress brought the town from an essentially agricultural economy to a different process of increasing industrialization, especially in the Lace Bobbin, whose art represents the typical tradition of the city.

Offida is also very popular for its food and wine, because it’s very rich in products and typical dishes, such as the “Chichì Stuffed”, a very tasty stuffed focaccia, and the “Mushrooms”, which are  very simple cakes which seem little mushrooms.

In addition, with more than 1,100 hectares of vineyards, it is the town of Ascoli Piceno with the largest area of vines and it reached a great excellence quality of wine.

So all these aspects make it appreciate by tourists and make it consider one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
